Plated steel rolled material consists of a bimetal cast block made from a base material, and a surface layer made from ferritic or austenitic stainless steel containing chromium and nickel alloying additions. The base material contains alloying additions (in wt.%) of 1.0-5.8 silicon and 0.1-5.0 aluminum with the proviso that 3.0 = (silicon +aluminum) = 6.0. An Independent claim is also included for a process for the production of the plated steel rolled material. Preferred Features: The base layer and the surface layer additionally contain manganese (Mn), molybdenum (Mo), vanadium (V), copper (Cu), titanium (Ti), niobium (Nb), zirconium (Zr), yttrium (Y), rare earths, nitrogen (N) and carbon (C).
