Costello Construction recently completed a new headquarters for the Rockville (Md.) Police Department through adaptive reuse of a former U.S. Post Office facility. To maintain the building's integrity, the team performed extensive restoration to the existing masonry, marble, terrazzo, doors, and exterior windows. A new three-story, 14,500-sf annex on the same site features a vegetative roof system, skylights, a blast-and bullet-resistant curtain wall, masonry elements, and cast stone veneer. Both buildings have hydraulic elevators and exterior zinc metal panels. Wheeler Goodman Masek Architects designed the project.
