South Oxfordshire District Council has clashed with conservationists after it revealed its thoughts on green belt releases for housing. It published a study by Terra Firma Consultants of whether the green belt in the district, under intense pressure from the city of Oxford to expand, is meeting its official purposes. It proposes a number of areas which could be removed from green belt designation. "We'll now look carefully at our options for where we can put our remaining housing allocation," said leader John Cotton. "We'll be asking our residents what they think of our preferred options in the coming months, but they can rest assured we have no plans to rip up the green belt as some others want us to."
