Cemetery remediation defended

Southwark Borough Council has hit back at critics of Its plan to remove contamination from an illegal dumping ground and return it to use as a burial site. The plan for land within Camberwell Cemetery has sparked claims "local woodland is being cleared", but the area was badly affected by illegal waste disposal and contamination and fenced off. The Council wants to remediate the site and create 1,000 new burial plots.
