Labour criticises garden villages initiative

The Labour Party has dismissed the Government's decision to support the construction of more garden villages as hot air. John Healey, the Shadow Secretary of State for Housing, has used the proposed garden city at Ebbsfleet as an example of the Government's shortcomings. "Since 2012, we've had 32 Government announcements on Ebbsfleet but less than 500 homes built -or 16 homes for every press release," he says. The Government says it will back the building of 14 new garden villages and three new garden towns - a move it believes could help yield 200,000 new homes.
