Influence of potassium and sodium fertiliser on beet yields and quality

Much of the experimental work on sugar beet fertilising in the past 20 years has concentrated on nitrogen. Increasing attention is now being paid to the opti-mum levels of potassium and sodium fertilisers applied to the sugar beet crop. Minimising costs, maximising yields and quality and preserving the environment are three objectives which need to be achieved. This article shows how recent experimental work carried out throughout the sugar beet growing areas is supporting British Sugar's recommendations for potassium and sodium fertilisers.
