The photography world paid tribute to Irving Penn last week, who died in his New York home, aged 92.Regarded by many as the greatest fashion and portrait shooter of all time, his stripped down compositions set against minimal grey or white backdrops influenced generations of photographers, and in many respects he set the blueprint for those that followed him - not least by paving the way for commercial photographers being accepted into the artistic mainstream.
