I read with interest the comments by Walker and McCann, and Ngeow. For the last 3 years our department has been splinting avulsed teeth using a self-curing composite (Protemp™, 3M ESPE, Bracknell, UK) commonly used as a material for temporary crowns. The technique is very simple.rnThe tooth or teeth are repositioned in the socket and held in place with a finger, or by the patient gently biting on a cotton wool roll. The area is cleaned with damp gauze and dried, again with gauze. A ribbon of Protemp™ is placed on the labial or buccal surface of the avulsed tooth and its neighbours. An applicator gun with a disposable Archimedean screw is used, so no mixing of materials, no acid etching, priming, bonding, light cure, or wire are required.
