Work begins at Pinkenba maltings

Barrett Burston is building a $80 million facility at Pinkenba beside Brisbane airport which will create 20 new jobs, expand the market for Queensland barley growers and produce some 100,000 tonnes each year. There are existing Graincorp silos on the site for grain storage and the plant will commission in early 2011. Drawing barley from northern New South Wales and southern Queensland, half the output will go to Fosters Yatala plant and the rest will be exported from Brisbane.
