We had assumed by early 2021 Australia would be open for domestic travel and we were moving with confidence toward a hybrid event; live in Perth for local delegates with live broadcasts to overseas delegates - and live crosses to overseas presenters. This immediately presented time zone challenges, but with a four-day agenda planned there seemed to be room to move and get most of the originally planned programme to work. But by July 2020 it was clear we could not even bank on local travel and subsequent state border closures across Australia made it a certainty. So, with only six months to go it was either a full virtual event or a total cancellation. A review of the recent developments in virtual conferencing platforms and discussions with our conferencing organising team at Tribe Events confirmed this could be a viable option, so it was all systems go on 'Perth' 2021 virtual.
