THSRC began new fare starting October 8th 2013. For example, the fare from Taipei to Zuoying is adjusted to NT$1,630 from NT$1，490， with an adjustment of about 9.69%. HSR is a Build, Operate, and Transfer (BOT) project with the participation from the private sector.In accordance with Article 40 of the "Statute for Encouragement of Private Participation in Transportation Infrastructure", the proposed fare rate standard, timing and methods of adjustment, were reviewed by the Transportation Fare Committee and approved by MOTC. Afterwards, the fare mechanism was included into the 1998 signed HSR construction and operation agreement. According to the Agreement, the MOTC shall review and adjust the base fare rate (FG) referencing the variation of the Taiwan area consumer price index (CPI), and make a public announcement on April 1st. Based on the information, THSRC can make at most 20% upward changes to set its own operation fare rate (FB) and ticket price.
