Collision Repair Association of California Opposes Labor Rate Survey Data Collection By Third-Party Vendors

Representatives of the Collision Repair Association of California (CRA) and the California Autobody Association (CAA) as well as insurance companies declared at a recent meeting with the California Department of Insurance that labor rate survey data should not be handled by third-party vendors. CRA lobbyist Richard Steffen said the CRA board is firmly opposed to the use of insurer labor rate surveys to set rates. He believes the department of insurance should draft rules to specify that surveys should be limited to internal use by insurers and that no survey should contain DRP rates. All repair groups at the meeting (including the New Motor Car Dealers Association) agreed that the labor rate insurer surveys comes up with should not be presumed to be accurate.
