On the corner of Hope Street and Hardman Street, a greying neoclassical building dating from 1932 -once a school for the blind and later the headquarters of Merseyside Police - has become the central venue for this year's biennial. Known as The Old Blind School, run-down and on the cusp of being redeveloped by an adjacent hotel, it has seen 17 artists produce new work for this show. Each room in the slightly eerie building with its peeling wallpaper, smell of damp, and sooty fireplaces, has a piece of art that demonstrates the artist's relationship to their immediate surroundings and objects in everyday life. It's a brilliant venue, but the building, rather than the art, becomes the protagonist.
