London Festival of Architecture 2018

Identity can mean a lot of things. It was the theme of this year's London Festival of Architecture (LFA), a diffuse affair with 400 installations, exhibitions and events across the city. There was architecture - from upscale residential glass blocks that are redefining the identity of the River Thames, to a cartoon house (by artist Richard Woods) dumped in a skip in Hoxton, literally rubbishing identity-challenged design and dreams. There were ideas ranging from extending our senses to appreciate buildings that shape an area's identity, to questions of identity politics in using a building. With a programme stretching from beautifying the City's unsullied public realm to forums where issues like class and race surfaced, you couldn't fault the LFA in the diversity of its offer or its participants.
