30 YEARS: SUSAN SPIRITUS GALLERY

Susan Spiritus never anticipated becoming one of southern California's leading photography dealers when she first opened her gallery back in 1976. What she did know was that she wanted to create opportunities for others to share in her passion. While living in Boston, Spiritus, who has a college degree in speech pathology and audiology, and a master's degree in specia education, taught language to preschool deaf children and later founded a school for the deaf while living on the island of Guam from 1968 to 1970. It was after her return from Guam that she contracted a viral infection affecting the inner ear, which ironically left her deaf in the left ear.
