摘要

For Benjamin Goss, the modern urban metropolis projects an emphatically dichotomous quality. On the one hand, it's a somewhat ominous entity in which his subjects must contend with the physical and psychoiogica hazards of unforgiving architectural terrain and a darkness that threatens to transgress metaphorical boundaries. On the other hand, the city is repository of an almost palpable energy that feeds dreams and sustains interpersonal connections. Goss readily admits to the influence his surroundings have exerted upon an ongoing photography project with the appropriate title Intuition. "Photographers shape things to fit a certain personal perspective, whether we do it intentionally or not," he says. "I grew up in a city setting, and at an early age developed a distaste for urban sprawl. I'm sure that my subconscious response to that has contributed to what I perceive as the uneasy relationship most people have with their urban environment."
