The 1950s, 60s, and 70s were a time of great cultural upheaval and self-discovery in the United States. We spent these decades searching for a new identity, wishing to define ourselves as modern individuals and a nation. America had survived the tribulations of WWII. Back at home, good citizens were doing what was expected-crew cuts, ponytails, Tang. Americans endured the Cold War and the prospect of bomb shelters. But a rebellion against this status quo was swirling in the air.
