THE PHOTOGRAPHIC WIZARDRY OF EDMUND TESKE

In December 1976, I attended my first "photo grab" at the studio of Edmund Teske with my high school photography teacher, Anthony Lovette, one of Teske's many students. Teske held these "photo grab" parties to help raise rent money. He invited an eclectic mix of people to attend, including his students, their families and friends, fellow artists, actors, teachers and neighbors. Guests could purchase a place on the "grab" for $15, a price which gradually rose to $35 by the mid-1980s.
