Picture this. An 11-year-old boy is visiting his favorite grandfather, a wise and worldly and kindly old gentleman, who hands his young grandson a black-and-white photo he has just received from his missionary friends in Kenya. It shows an erect white man in his jodhpurs, surrounded by the boundless Serengeti plains. Standing next to him but in no way diminished by his presence are two small black men.
