Fingerprint sensors find natural home in mobiles

The use of fingerprint sensors in mobile phones could be set to take off, according to new research by the Kerton Group, a wireless consulting and analysis firm. According to Kerton Group, there are strong drivers for inclusion of fingerprint sensors in handsets and promising opportunities for sensor manufacturers, such as Atrua and AuthenTec. Kerton Group contends that the growth drivers for fingerprint-enabled handsets are even stronger than for laptops. While about 20% of laptops already ship with integrated fingerprint sensors for security, mobile devices are more mobile, and less secure.
