A real-time microcomputerized muscle fatigue monitor based on the median frequency shift of the electromyographic signal, computed via the fast Fourier transform, is discussed. For the ten subjects performing an isotonic and isometric trunk extension task on two separate days, preliminary results suggest a repeatable linear decrease in median frequency as a function of time.
