Prognostic role of serum cancer antigen 15-3 in breast cancer patients with isolated bone metastases

Objective: To investigate the association between cancer antigen (CA) 15-3 and clinicopathological parameters in patients who had breast cancer with isolated bone metastases at the time of diagnosis and to analyse the effect on clinical outcomes.rnMethods: Between June 2004 and January 2007, the data of 129 consecutive patients were examined.rnResults: Elevated CA 15-3 levels were associated with poor disease-free survival (p=0.001) and overall survival (p=0.006). In multivariate analysis, serum CA 15-3 level (p=0.003) was found to be an independent factor in overall survival.rnConclusion: Elevated CA 15-3 level is a useful parameter for predicting clinical outcomes.
