A major research library like The New York Public Library exists on many levels in time and space. Since the Library opened in 1911, students, scholars, writers, artists, and ordinary individuals with a desire for knowledge have used its vast resources both to advance their careers and to enhance their lives. Sometimes the results of their studies are cycled back into the Library's collections, becoming fresh research materials for a new generation of users. The process is ongoing and self-renewing. A case study may be drawn from the Library's Print Room.
