In Ball Aerosol, the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit reversed the district court's summary judgment of patent validity and infringement of a candle holder patent by applying the Supreme Court's holding in KSR Intern. Co. v. Tele/lex Inc. (KSR) that a patent that combines elements of prior art is obvious if the improvement is no better than the predictable use of prior art elements according to their functions.
