The efficiency of the AGC thickness control system is crucial for the strip quality. Even if the requirements on new mills today are very hard, there is still room for considerable improvement, using modern control technology. In this paper we will describe the new AGC 2000X control system, developed by First Control and installed in the new Cold Rolling Mill at Avesta Sheffield, Precision Strip in Sweden. The system contains several new control concepts, which improve the AGC performance and increase the amount of strip within tolerances.
