As this issue was in preparation, Alcatel and Lucent Technologies merged, creating a strong, globally balanced communications company. The Alcatel-Lucent postmerger research community is significantly larger and stronger and possesses a more uniform global footprint. Even before the merger, the two companies were global in their reach, with a global customer base, global operations, and a global supplier network.
