Die Grundidee Um neue, bzw. allgemein nur ungenügend anerkannte Ideen und wissenschaftliche Fragestellungen zu verbreiten, deren Erkenntnisse in Vortrag und Diskussion vorzustellen sowie in Veröffentlichungen zu fixieren, ist eine systematische wissenschaftsorganisatorische Tätigkeit nützlich. Jede später etablierte Wissenschaft wird zuerst von Amateuren betrieben. Eine Institutionalisierung, verbunden mit universitärer Forschung und Lehre, also eine Professionalisierung im üblichen Sinne, erfolgt dann später. Darauf wies schon der Begründer der physikalischen Chemie und Nobelpreisträger, Wilhelm Ostwald (1853-1932), hin:%The basic idea of the German scientific Society of Interlinguistics is the belief that it is necessary to bring together and to get into action experts of a particular scientific field. If those experts are provided with a motivation and possibilities to do research, to give lectures, to exchange experiences among one another and to publish results, these experts will make valuable contributions to scientific development. GIL attempts to realize this concept by its conferences, publications and other activities. In doing so, it comprises the subject of interlinguistics in its broad significance.
