Keith Andrzejewski: The statistics tell the story. Home mortgage fraud in the US is $60bn a year. The American Bankers Association's 2011 Deposit Account Fraud Survey Report revealed that debit card fraud increased to $955m, up from $788m the year before. Cheque-related losses were $893m, and although this was down from the $ 1,024m recorded the previous year it was probably because of the declining use of the cheque rather than better fraud prevention methods.
