In 2012, the number of bankers employed in London's Canary Wharf financial district officially overtook the number employed in the City of London, making it the biggest employer of bankers in Europe. Research by the Financial Times shows that the 16 biggest banks in the UK employ 44,500 people in Canary Wharf, compared with 43,300 in the Square Mile. ABN Amro Bank has completed the acquisition of Banco CR2, a small, privately owned commercial bank based in Brazil. This acquisition fits with the strategy to selectively grow the existing international businesses and allows ABN Amro to offer onshore products authorised under Brazilian banking regulations to its existing clients in the energy, commodities and transportation sectors.
