The Silk Road was a system of ancient trade routes that for almost 2000 years served as a critical network for commerce and cultural communication between central Asia, Europe and Africa. Truly immense in magnitude, continuous streams of caravans loaded with their precious goods would climb towering mountain passes and carve through scorching desert to ply their trade at the many bustling commercial centres and bazaars that dotted the routes.
