Massive increases in port capacity, shipbuilding and seafarer numbers form the core of a new perspective plan from India's Shipping Ministry, launched January 13 by Minister of Shipping Shri G.K. Vasan. The Maritime Agenda 2010-2020 includes goals such as an increase in port capacity to around 3.2 billion tonnes, an increased share of global shipbuilding from the current one percent to five percent, and an increase in the number of Indian seafarers from around six percent to nine percent.
