Kawasaki Heavy Industries began with the establishment of the Kawasaki Tsukiji Dockyard in 1878. Founded by Shozo Kawasaki, the company's core ship business now leverages 130 years of experience to build and repair a wide range of ship types. Currently, the shipbuilding wing is engaged in the construction of commercial vessels such as LNG and LPG carriers, container ships, bulk carriers, and very large crude carriers (VLCCs) as well as submarines. But Kawasaki also has a long history of manufacturing marine machinery. Ever since developing its first marine steam turbine back in 1907, Kawasaki has been proactive in supplying a host of machinery - both main and auxiliary units - for commercial and naval vessels.
