Pella Shipyard begins construction on new Russian navy tug

Russian shipbuilder Pella Shipyard recently held a keel-laying ceremony for its newest tug for the Russian Navy last month. Part of the "Project 16609" vessel series currently being built for the Russian Federation Navy, the ceremony was attended by RF Navy officials and leaders. The 28.5 metre x 9.5 metre x 4.3 metre tug will be powered by l,500kW Caterpillar engines driving Rolls-Royce Z-drives. With delivery set for 2014, the Fi-Fi capable vessel will feature Fluidmecanica winches and cranes and will be utilised for towing and berthing operations within the RF Baltic Fleet.
