The MD Helicopters' MD 520N is the no-tail-rotor (NOTAR) version of the Hughes/MD 500 series of light utility helicopter. The NOTARrncontrol system replaces conventional tail rotors used for yaw control by directing the turbine engine exhaust through a swiveling exhaust duct/cone located at the end of the tail boom. In full-scale use, NOTAR systems eliminate the tail rotors, gearbox and control linkages, thus reducing aircraft weight and vibration while also increasing ground safety. Since the new E-flite (e-fliterc.com) Blade CX3 heli is a co-axial helicopter, it too is a no-tail-rotor design, so the match with the scale MD 520N body is a perfect choice.
