Estrogen:Exciting the Brain

Estrogen, thought of as the primary female sex hormone, plays an important role in the physiology of both men and women. In both sexes, estrogen promotes a healthy libido, maintains optimal brain function, strengthens bones, and protects the heart (1). Current research indicates estrogen may play a significant role in changing the dynamics of neural signaling— knowledge that may contribute to a better understanding of the differences between how men and women process information.
