Each One Reach One

In addition to my time spent thinking about science and supporting women in their scientific endeavors, I also have a degree in music and over the years have participated in many semi-professional singing or-ganiza- tions. In 1996, when I was doing research at the National Science Foundation (NSF), I was selected to be part of the Washington Singers (now part of the Master Chorale) here in DC. At one of our concerts, a fellow singer approached me after the concert and said there was someone she wanted me to meet. "She's a scientist, and I think the two of you will really hit it off," she said. That scientist was Pam Hines, now a Senior Editor for Science and former Editor of AWIS Magazine. After talking with her about my work at NSF, she asked if I would like to write an article for an upcoming issue of the magazine. And so, my relationship with AWIS was born.
