New ABCCC Tactics Used in NATO Air Strikes

Most of the U.S. Air Force's aging EC-130 Airborne Battlefield Command, Control and Communications aircraft are playing a critical role in organizing NATO strikes against Yugoslav targets even though the aircraft only recently were slated to be slowly phased out of service. Three of six ABCCCs have been supporting Bosnia operations for the past few years, but now USAF has deployed a fourth aircraft to ensure a system is available around the clock during Operation Allied Force. One ABCCC is always airborne, flying mis-sions in excess of 8 hr. The ABCCCs are at home at Davis-Monthan AFB, Ariz.
