More Details Emerge About Lockheed Martin's Pioneering X-44A

While most heads at the Los Angeles County Air Show on March 24-25 were turned upward to watch the flying display, it was the unexpected presence in the static park of a previously secret Lockheed Martin Skunk Works unmanned air vehicle (UAV) that stole the headlines. Dubbed the X-44A, the diminutive swept-wing UAV was spirited to the show at the Gen. William J. Fox Airfield from the Skunk Works facility at the nearby U.S. Air Force's Plant 42 in Palmdale. The company opted to use the air show to showcase the formerly classified demonstrator as part of a campaign to boost broader awareness of its long-running UAV experience as well as to help mark the 75th anniversary of the Skunk Works.
