摘要

Shortly after 9/11, several corporate pilots, operating out of a large U.S. general aviation airport that I used to manage, started carrying firearms. Local laws were shaky on such actions and since the aircraft were privately owned, they did not fall under the prohibited items lists that apply to commercial aviation. At that time, it was apparent that corporate aviation, and especially the pilots employed within that sector of the industry, believed it was at risk.rnNow, eight years after 9/11, with the exception of a number of stolen aircraft, sometimes by drunk pilots, there has been no significant incident or attack using general aviation. When the U.S. Transportation Security Administration (TSA) released its proposed regulations on private aircraft, called the Large Aircraft Security Program (LASP), the industry and its pilots were ready to debate whether they were at significant enough risk to warrant additional security controls andrnwhether there was a necessity to regulate it in a manner commensurate with that of commercial aviation.
