HELICOPTERS TARGETTED: APRIL/MAY 2009

A quick glance through the Air Watch section of this issue of the journal will demonstrate the extent to which helicopter operations have to take security precautions: Air Works, the company that handles the repairs and maintenance of Indian billionaire Anil Ambani's Bell 412 helicopter, reported that it appeared that his helicopter had been the subject of sabotage. Sand and pebbles had been found in the helicopter's fuel tank. Uday Manohar Warekar, 32, and Balra Ganpati Thevar, 38, were arrested on 3 May in connection with the incident. Police are also investigating possible links between the incident and the death of an Air Works technician, Bharat Borge, who discovered the pebbles and who had died after supposedly being run over by a train on 28 April.
