You may have earned your multi ticket in a Piper Apache in 1959, and most likely you still know this checklist. It works no matter what phase of flight you're in when the failure occurs.rnI propose that instructors begin teaching this same technique to pilots of single-engine airplanes. After assuring attitude control at the first sign of power loss, move all the power controls to the full forward position. It's not the most efficient place to run an aircraft engine, by far, but with the exception of a turbocharger failure at high altitude, there isn't an engine out there that won't develop significant power with the mixture, prop and throttle controls fully open if it's capable of developing power at all. This should be the first step of any engine failure, even in singles.
