Air League/Boeing Flying Scholarships

Former serviceman Karl Hinnett of the Staffordshire Regiment is one of six previous members of the armed forces to be awarded an inaugural Air League/Boeing powered flying scholarship. Karl did his training with Aerobility at Blackbushe, Surrey and flew solo on September 19 in a Piper PA-28 Warrior eight years to the day after being seriously injured in his Warrior armoured vehicle in Basra. He sufferd third degree burns on 40% of his body. Karl said: "When I found out I'd been given the chance to learn how to fly, it felt like I'd won the lottery. After Iraq, I felt I was at a crossroads in life. Either you let it take over or you decide to make the most of what you've got, and I chose the latter.
