Many of the world's capital cities rely on a single airport for their commercial aviation needs. But many also have other facilities, either designed to take the strain off a main airport or to deal with different types of traffic, such as the low-cost carriers that have flourished in the past decade. London has more airports than most - Heathrow, Stansted, Luton, City, Southend and Oxford all take the capital's name as well as Gatwick (IATA code LGW). Others, such as London Ashford (Lydd), are set to join the list. Ownership of the West Sussex airport changed in 2009 when BAA was forced to sell it following a ruling by the UK's Competition Commission.
