Lockheed Martin is to purchase Sikorsky Aircraft for $9 billion. The Bethesda, Maryland-based company announced the proposed acquisition on July 20, revealing it has entered into a definitive agreement for the deal. Lockheed Martin said the price was effectively reduced to approximately $71 billion, after taking into account tax benefits resulting from the transaction. Marillyn Hewson, Lockheed Martin chairman, president and CEO, said: "Sikorsky is a natural fit for Lockheed Martin and complements our broad portfolio of world-class aerospace and defence products and technologies. Together, we'll offer a strong portfolio of helicopter solutions to our global customers and accelerate the pace of innovation and new technology development."
