SAS Acquires Cimber

Plans to acquire a 100% shareholding in regional carrier Cimber have been announced by SAS. The provincial airline was due to stop operations in April following a decision by SAS to end its partnership with the carrier (see Aviation News, December 2014). But on December 8 of last year, SAS said it had entered into an agreement to acquire Cimber's entire shareholding for DKK20m ($3.3m). SAE says it will transfer 12 Bombardier CRJ900s to Cimber to fly out of Copenhagen Kastrup Airport. SAS will continue with Cimber's previously announced decision to retire its fleet of a single ATR 72 and eight CRJ200s. The transaction is subject to approval by the relevant competition authorities, but SAS hopes to complete the deal in April when it makes the final payment.
