In August 1945 at the end of World War Two, BOAC, then the world's largest airline, had 207 aircraft made up of 11 types of landplanes and seven versions of flying boat. Unfortunately, the majority of these aircraft proved to be uneconomical to operate in peacetime except for the Douglas DC-3 Dakota, which was used for short routes, and the Boeing 314A flying boat for the airline's long-range services.
