Boeing marked the end of C-17A Globemaster III production at its plant in Long Beach, California, with the departure of the last aircraft on November 29. After flying over the production line and a crowd of around 1,000 people who had gathered to watch the historic occasion, the aircraft, MAN/N275ZD (c 50276), carried on to the Boeing facility in San Antonio, Texas. It will remain there with three other examples until delivery to the Qatar Emiri Air Force (QEAF) in 2016. Following the announcement that it would be ending production, Boeing built ten additional 'white tails' (ie, with no customer order) and all bar one of these has been sold. Four were acquired by the QEAF, two went to the Royal Australian Air Force, one to the Royal Canadian Air Force and two to the United Arab Emirates Air Force and Air Defence. A contract for the remaining airframe is expected to be finalised shortly.
