摘要

This project will introduce the possibility of redesigning the left-hand side aft loadmaster station of the C-17 Military Transport Aircraft based on data from rework and repair hours and from assembly order performances, collected over several aircraft. The focus is on finding ways to eliminate the actual cause of the cumbersome wiring and eliminate wire integrity test (WIT) errors during on aircraft testing procedure (OATP) testing operation. During the time covered by this project, a major redesign of interface areas was concluded based on design for manufacturing and assembly (DFMA) methods to reduce assembly time (span time) and cost, while manufacturing a quality product that meets and exceeds customer expectations. Power-on testing has been identified as a critical milestone in the assembly of the aircraft. This testing can not begin until all the wiring has been terminated in the left-hand side aft loadmaster station. The new design will enable manufacturing and production to improve better sequencing and to meet the C-17 Program power-on milestone.
