In 2012, Airways introduced ground-breaking new performance-based navigational technology at Queenstown, which would be key to the subsequent dramatic and continuing growth in passenger traffic. Called Required Navigation Performance, Authorisation Required (RNP AR), it uses instruments and satellites to facilitate travel on any flight path, using shorter routes and avoiding obstacles.
