The political unrest in Bolivia, in which almost 80 people had been killed during demonstrations against President Gonzalo Sanchez de Lozada, didn't seem to be abating and we were checking news channel CNN every day to find out the latest developments. The situation had even led to other South American countries evacuating their citizens from Bolivia. With it not looking safe to travel there, our tour manager had been talking to the Ian Allan head office in the UK as well as the local agents to ensure we wouldn't get caught up in the situation. For the time being, on Friday October 17, we had Paraguay to enjoy.
